Chapter 8: The Weight of Stars
Tasha, Elias, Zahra, and Kaelen travel toward the Well of Souls under cover of darkness. Tasha and Elias share a tender conversation about fate and sacrifice. Zahra reveals the history of the guardians. Kaelen warns of Vane's pursuit. They arrive at the Well of Souls at dawn, where Tasha prepares to face the sacrifice. The chapter ends with Vane's men appearing on the ridge as Tasha steps toward the well.
Dawn painted the sky in shades of rose and gold, a soft light spilling over the desert like a benediction. Tasha stirred in the cave's mouth, her body stiff from the night's uneasy rest. The obsidian stone pulsed gently against her chest, a constant reminder of what lay ahead.
Elias was already awake, sitting on a rock nearby, studying the map with furrowed brows. He looked up as she moved, his eyes softening.
"You should rest longer," he said.
