Chapter 11: The Glowing Pillars
Tasha, Elias, Zahra, and Kaelen arrive at the ancient observatory, only to be ambushed by Captain Tariq Ibn Rashid and his men. Tasha uses the obsidian fragment to activate the pillars, causing a blinding light that allows them to escape into a hidden chamber beneath the observatory, but Tariq pursues them into the darkness.
The obsidian fragment in Tasha's hand pulsed with a warmth that spread up her arm, and Kaelen felt the hair on the back of their neck stand up. The symbols on the stone pillars—once inert carvings worn by centuries of wind—began to glow a deep, pulsing blue, as if awakening from a long slumber.
Captain Tariq Ibn Rashid's smile faltered. He barked an order in a language Kaelen didn't recognize, and his men raised their rifles, the clicks of safeties being released echoing across the ridge.
"Stop her!" Tariq shouted.
