Below, in the heart of its ancient stone, Alex sat upon a throne sculpted from the solidified essence of a thousand lifetimes. It was a morbid comfort, a monument to his prolonged slumber and the world’s desperate, futile preparations. Three centuries. A mere blink in the lifespan of his kind, yet an eternity for the fragile mortals who scurried across the land, their lives a fleeting spark against the backdrop of his own endless existence.
He felt the ebb and flow of his power, a sluggish tide returning to its rightful shore. The slumber had been a necessary purge, a shedding of the mortal coil that had clung to him in his previous life. Now, only the vampiric essence remained, raw and untamed, devoid of the emotional clutter that had once defined him. It was a clean slate, a canvas upon which he could paint his new reality.
