The crimson blood moon bled its ethereal light across the desolate landscape, casting long, skeletal shadows from the obsidian spires of the blood castle. Within its chilling embrace, a silence had reigned for three centuries, a silence broken only by the rustling silks and hushed whispers of those who waited. Now, that silence was fractured, the stillness shattered by the slow, deliberate opening of ancient eyes.

Alex stirred. The darkness of the coffin, once a comforting void, now felt like a shroud clinging to his very essence. A thousand years of slumber, yet only three hundred had passed in the world above. A temporal dissonance that pricked at the edges of his nascent consciousness. He felt the weight of ages pressing down, the phantom echo of power that had once been his, now a mere whisper in the hollow chambers of his being. Weakness was an alien sensation, a bitter draught he was unaccustomed to.

The lid of the sarcophagus, carved from a single piece of petrified dragon bone, creaked open with a groan that seemed to reverberate through the very foundations of the castle. Dust motes danced in the faint shafts of moonlight that pierced the gloom of the crypt. He pushed himself up, his movements stiff, like a marionette whose strings had been neglected for too long.
