Chapter 14
Echoes of the Past
Lilly discovers a hidden ruin that holds clues to the Shadow Weaver's origin and the reason for his malice. She learns his power feeds on fear and despair, and that her own latent abilities are the antithesis.
The air in the forgotten ruin was thick with the scent of damp earth and the slow decay of centuries. Dust motes danced in the slivers of light that pierced the cracks in the crumbling stone, illuminating the skeletal remains of what must have once been a place of significance. Lilly traced the intricate carvings on a fallen pillar, her fingers brushing away layers of grime to reveal forgotten symbols. Elias walked beside her, his steps measured, his gaze sweeping over the desolate grandeur with a somber reverence.
"This place… it feels heavy," Lilly murmured, her voice hushed as if afraid to disturb the slumbering spirits. The weight of the past pressed in on her, a palpable presence that whispered of tragedies long buried. She’d followed Elias through a treacherous ravine, a path barely discernible from the overgrown wilderness, until they’d stumbled upon this hidden sanctuary, or perhaps, a tomb.
Elias nodded, his eyes fixed on a weathered altar at the center of the chamber. "Every stone here has a story, Lilly. Stories of a time before the Shadow Weaver, a time of balance. And stories of his arrival." He paused, his voice growing softer. "This is where it all began, in a way. Not his birth, but the seeds of his malice were sown here."
