The roar of the crowd was a physical force, pressing in on me, a tidal wave of manufactured adoration. My smile, a practiced curve of lips, felt brittle, ready to shatter. Every flashing light, every shouted name, was a tiny hammer blow against the fragile facade I’d spent my life building. They wanted perfection. They demanded it. And I, Hatsune Miku, the shining star, the flawless Vocaloid, was supposed to deliver. But tonight, the cracks were widening. Tonight, the carefully constructed dam was about to break.

My fingers, usually so precise on the holographic keyboard, felt clumsy, alien. My voice, the instrument that had captivated millions, felt like a stranger’s, a borrowed thing. It was the sword, of course. It was always the sword now. Tucked away in its unassuming sheath, hidden beneath layers of my stage costume, it pulsed with a dark, insistent rhythm against my hip. It was a constant, unsettling reminder of the alley, of the whispers, of the gnawing awareness that something ancient and terrible had chosen *me*.

The music swelled, a crescendo designed to lift the audience into a state of ecstatic bliss. My cue. I opened my mouth, ready to sing the familiar, saccharine melody, the one that promised innocence and joy. But instead of the expected notes, a guttural growl escaped my throat. It was raw, primal, nothing like the pure, synthesized tones they expected. A ripple of confusion spread through the front rows. A few confused murmurs, a nervous cough. The lights flickered, not in their programmed sequence, but erratically, as if struggling to contain the anomaly.
