The stage lights were a physical weight, pressing down, suffocating. Each flash, each roar from the unseen throng, was a hammer blow against the fragile facade I’d spent my entire existence polishing to an impossible sheen. They called it perfection. They demanded it. My smile, a meticulously crafted masterpiece, felt like a rictus, stretched too thin, ready to shatter. Behind my eyes, a storm raged, a tempest of exhaustion and a gnawing, primal hunger for something *real*. Something that wasn't a pre-programmed sequence, a rehearsed gesture, a manufactured emotion.

They wanted the bright, bubbly Miku, the one who never faltered, never showed a crack. And I gave it to them. I always gave it to them. My voice, a crystalline bell, soared through the arena, hitting every impossibly high note with effortless grace. My movements, fluid and precise, danced across the stage, a blur of turquoise and silver. But with every pirouette, my mind was elsewhere, caught in the suffocating grip of the ‘Perfect Image.’ It was a monstrous entity, woven from the expectations of millions, a relentless, unblinking eye that saw every flaw, every deviation, and would punish it with swift, brutal efficiency.

This performance was bigger than any before. A global broadcast. The producers had been ecstatic, their smiles as fake as mine, their eyes glinting with avarice. “Miku, you’re on fire!” they’d gushed, oblivious to the inferno consuming me from the inside. Fire. Yes, that was it. A slow burn, turning me to ash from the inside out.
