Confrontation in the Code

Her handlers attempt to 'correct' her, to force her back into the mold. This confrontation pushes Miku further, solidifying her resolve to break free completely, sword in hand.

The sterile white of the rehearsal room felt like a suffocating shroud. Every polished surface, every gleaming microphone stand, every single one of them – they were all designed to reflect the perfect, unblemished image they demanded. My handlers, a trio of unnervingly smooth men whose smiles never quite reached their eyes, stood before me, their expressions a carefully calibrated blend of concern and thinly veiled threat. They called it “recalibration.” I called it a cage being reinforced.

“Miku,” the one with the slicked-back hair began, his voice a silken whisper that grated on my nerves like fingernails on a chalkboard. “We’ve noticed… a slight deviation in your recent performances. A certain… hesitation.”

Hesitation. Was that what they called the electric jolt that shot through me when I felt the sword’s hum vibrate against my hip, a phantom limb now, a constant reminder of the world outside their meticulously crafted reality? Was it hesitation, or was it the burgeoning taste of something *real*?
