The murmurs started subtly, like static building beneath a perfect melody. At first, they were dismissed as glitches, the occasional off-key note in an otherwise flawless performance. But then came the pauses, the vacant stares that lingered a beat too long, the way my eyes, usually bright and fixed on the adoration, seemed to dart to the edges of the stage, searching for something I couldn't name. The whispers, of course, followed.

"Did you see that?" someone would lean in, their voice a low hiss in the darkened theater. "She looked… lost." "Not lost. Scared." "No, not scared. Angry."

The anger. That was the one that truly resonated, the one that felt like a raw nerve exposed. It wasn't a fleeting emotion; it was a slow burn, fueled by the endless rehearsals, the forced smiles, the hollow praise. Now, it had a companion, a dark echo that amplified every doubt, every flicker of defiance. The sword. It rested beneath my floorboards, a silent promise, a humming secret that was slowly bleeding into my consciousness.
