Chapter 11
Alleyway's Revelation
Drawn back to the alley, Miku seeks answers. The sword seems to pulse with history, offering fragmented visions of its past, hinting at its true, formidable nature and purpose.
The grimy alley, a sanctuary of shadows and forgotten refuse, called to me again. It was a desperate summons, a siren song sung by the very decay I usually skirted. The air here was thick, not just with the stench of stale garbage and damp concrete, but with something else, something ancient and humming. It clung to me, a familiar cloak woven from the sword’s unsettling energy. I clutched the worn fabric of my jacket, the rough material a poor imitation of the smooth, cold steel I’d found tucked away in the shadows.
Back then, in that first frantic discovery, the sword had felt like a desperate answer. Now, it felt like a question, a riddle etched in metal and imbued with a power I couldn’t comprehend. I’d spent days since, each performance a tighter knot in my stomach, each forced smile a brand on my soul. The whispers had begun subtly, at first. Just the rustle of nonexistent leaves, the phantom creak of a door. Then, they’d sharpened, coalescing into half-formed words, insidious murmurs that slithered at the edge of my hearing. They spoke of freedom, of power, of a release I craved with a ferocity that terrified me.
My fingers brushed against the hilt, even through the layers of cloth I’d wrapped it in. It was cold, impossibly cold, even in the muggy warmth of the alley. But it wasn't a dead cold. It was a vibrant, thrumming cold, alive with a history that pulsed against my skin. I’d hidden it in my room, buried beneath a pile of discarded merchandise, a secret heartbeat in my otherwise sterile existence. But the urge to return, to touch it, to *understand* it, was a physical ache.
