A Shared Giggle
While helping Mom fold laundry, Alice and Olivia accidentally create a funny-shaped sock puppet. They share a genuine laugh. For a moment, Alice forgets her worries, enjoying the simple fun.
The laundry basket was a mountain of soft chaos, a jumble of socks, shirts, and towels that Sandra, Alice’s mom, always tackled with a sigh and a smile. Today, Alice was roped in, her small hands fumbling with a pair of Olivia’s brightly striped socks. Olivia, ever the whirlwind of energy, was already halfway through her own pile, her laughter like little bells as she twisted a tea towel into a pretend snake.
Alice tugged at a particularly stubborn sock, a fluffy, rainbow-striped one that seemed determined to escape her grasp. It was Olivia’s favorite, the one that always disappeared into the mysterious sock dimension of the washing machine. As she wrestled with it, trying to match it to its lonely twin, it slipped from her fingers and landed with a soft plop on the floor. She sighed, a tiny puff of disappointment. Even socks seemed to prefer Olivia.
Olivia, who had momentarily abandoned her serpentine creation, noticed Alice’s slumped shoulders. She scampered over, her eyes bright and curious. “What’s wrong, Alice? That sock giving you trouble?”
