The air in the small, repurposed warehouse still hummed with the residual energy of the night before, a phantom thrum that vibrated deep within my bones. It was a feeling I’d grown accustomed to, this sense of being on the precipice of something, yet perpetually held back. But last night… last night felt different. The shadows that had always clung to me, the ones that had kept me invisible, seemed to have receded, if only for a fleeting, breathtaking moment. I found myself staring at my reflection in the grimy window of my apartment, the green streaks in my black hair catching the weak morning light. My red eyes, usually sharp and analytical, were clouded with a haze of something unfamiliar, something warm and disquieting.

Crow. The name itself felt like a whispered secret on my tongue. His long, braided brown hair, the way his purple eyes held a universe of unspoken emotions, the sheer magnetic pull I felt whenever he was near. We had orbited each other for so long, two satellites in lonely trajectories, only to finally collide in the controlled chaos of that underground gathering. It wasn't just the music, or the pulsing crowd, or the illicit thrill of it all. It was the moment our eyes met across the room, a silent acknowledgment passing between us, a recognition that cut through the noise and the anonymity. It was the way he’d found me afterwards, his presence a grounding force in the dizzying aftermath, his hand brushing mine as he offered me a drink, a simple gesture that had sent a jolt through my entire being.

And then there were the… occurrences. The carefully placed coincidences, the opportune encounters, the subtle nudges that had pushed us together. The anonymous ticket to the exclusive event, the “chance” meeting at the late-night café, the unexpected delivery of a book I’d mentioned in passing to Crow, a book I hadn’t even realized he’d heard me speak of. It had all felt too orchestrated, too perfectly aligned to be mere fate. I’d spent countless hours dissecting these moments, trying to unravel the invisible threads that seemed to be weaving our lives together. My analytical mind, usually my shield against the messy ambiguities of human emotion, was now a tool for dissecting a mystery that held me captive.
