The benefactor's identity is revealed, shocking Sol and Crow. Their motives, though perhaps well-intentioned, are undeniably manipulative.
The air in the abandoned observatory hung thick with the dust of forgotten stars. Moonlight, strained through a cracked dome, painted ethereal streaks across the grimy floor where Crow and I stood, the silence between us a tangible thing, charged with the unspoken. It had been the benefactor’s latest ‘suggestion’ – a cryptic note slipped under my door, a single line of text: *The heavens hold more than they reveal. Meet me where the sky touches the earth.* It had led us here, to this place of celestial contemplation, and to the precipice of a truth I’d been both dreading and desperately seeking.
Crow shifted beside me, his braid swaying gently. He was looking not at the sky, but at me, his purple eyes searching mine with an intensity that still, after all this time, made my breath catch. He’d grown bolder, less hesitant. The initial awkwardness had been smoothed away by a series of orchestrated encounters, each one feeling like a carefully placed domino, leading us inevitably closer. And now, here we were, the culmination of it all, standing in the silent echo of the cosmos.
“So,” Crow began, his voice low, a murmur against the vastness. “This is it? The grand reveal?”
