Chapter 12
Visions of the Divine
Elara experiences increasingly powerful visions, glimpses of a benevolent, overwhelming presence. She believes these are signs that the Lord's intervention is imminent.
The dreams no longer felt like battles fought with sharp edges and visceral screams. They had softened, coalescing into something far more profound, something that shimmered at the edges of Elara’s awareness even when she was awake. It was as if the violent clashes of flesh and phantom had given way to a vast, silent ocean, within which a single, radiant pearl pulsed with an impossible light. This light, she felt with a certainty that bypassed logic, was the Lord’s.
She would drift in and out of sleep, the familiar dread of the inner war replaced by a gentle, insistent pull. In these moments, the boundaries of her own body seemed to dissolve, and she found herself adrift in an expanse of pure, benevolent energy. It wasn't a place, not in the way she understood places, but a state of being, an overwhelming presence that was both utterly alien and intimately familiar. It was warm, impossibly so, like sunlight on skin after a long winter, but it was also vast, an infinite embrace that threatened to dissolve her into its very essence.
Images, fleeting and luminous, would flicker behind her closed eyelids. She saw not the grim formations of her previous nightmares, but swirling nebulae of stardust, the silent blossoming of celestial flowers, the gentle dance of light across cosmic distances. And at the heart of it all, a single, unwavering point of brilliance. It was not a demanding light, not a scorching fire, but a serene, all-encompassing glow that promised an end to all struggle. It was peace, distilled and made manifest.
