The air in the small community hall crackled, not with the usual suburban hum of bake sales and book clubs, but with a palpable tension, a shared unease that settled like dust on the worn linoleum floor. Elara, her hand instinctively resting on the gentle swell of her belly, watched the other women across the room. A half-eaten plate of cookies sat untouched. “Last night… I saw shadows, clawing at the light. It felt so real, Elara. I woke up trying to push them away.” Her eyes, usually so bright, were clouded with exhaustion and a fear that mirrored Elara’s own.
