The air in the coven’s inner sanctum was thick with the scent of ancient herbs and something else, something metallic and sharp like ozone before a storm. Leo stood before them, a stark silhouette against the pulsating, ethereal glow that emanated from the central altar. Morwen, her eyes like chips of obsidian, met his gaze with an unnerving calm. Elara, her brow furrowed with a familiar concern, stood a respectful distance behind the elder witch, her hands clasped tightly. The other coven members, a dozen shadowed figures, formed a silent, watchful circle.
“You have given me power beyond my comprehension,” Leo began, his voice resonating with an authority he was still learning to wield, a power that vibrated in his very bones. “You have erased my past and gifted me a future I did not ask for. But your pronouncements are veiled, your motives shrouded. I demand clarity.”
Morwen inclined her head, a subtle movement that nonetheless commanded attention. “Clarity, young wizard, is a luxury often afforded only after the trials have begun. Yet, your impatience is understandable, given the… abruptness of your return.”
