Chapter 12
A Glimpse of the Lost Self
During a particularly intense training exercise or through the chance discovery of a forgotten artifact, a more substantial memory breaks through the fog of amnesia. Leo experiences a vivid, albeit fragmented, vision of a life he can barely comprehend – a person he might have been, with connections and emotions he can't quite grasp. This powerful glimpse of his lost self ignites a burning desire to uncover the complete truth, fueling his resolve.
The air in the training chamber crackled, not just with the residual energy of Leo’s latest spell practice, but with a palpable tension that had settled over him like a shroud. Morwen watched from her usual shadowed perch, her gaze sharp and unreadable, while Elara hovered nearby, a knot of concern tightening in her brow. Leo, sweat plastering strands of dark hair to his forehead, felt the familiar ache of exertion, but beneath it, a deeper disquiet had begun to fester. Morwen, in her inimitable way, had pushed him to the brink, demanding he channel raw elemental fury, shaping it into a protective ward of immense complexity. He’d succeeded, of course. He always did, now. The magic flowed through him as naturally as breathing, a symphony of forces he could command with a mere thought. But the victory felt hollow, like winning a battle with borrowed weapons.
“You are close, Leo,” Morwen’s voice, a low hum that seemed to vibrate through the very stones of the chamber, broke the silence. “The veil thins. You feel it, do you not?”
