Chapter 10
The Stirring of Oblivion
Unseen forces, disturbed by the surge of Leo's burgeoning power, begin to stir in the shadowed corners of the world. Unexplained magical anomalies plague the land, and hushed whispers circulate about a malevolent entity known only as the Shadow Weaver. This ominous presence, a dark counterpoint to Leo's light, is the very threat Morwen alluded to, and its growing influence is a chilling harbinger of conflict to come.
The air in the ancient forest, once a comforting blanket of earthy scents and rustling leaves, had begun to fray at the edges. A subtle dissonance hummed beneath the birdsong, a discordant note that only Leo, with his newly awakened senses, seemed to perceive. It wasn't a sound, not precisely, but a tremor in the very fabric of reality, a ripple spreading outward from his own burgeoning power. He’d felt it first as a prickle at the base of his skull, then as a growing unease that settled deep in his gut. It was the feeling of something vast and ancient awakening, something that had been slumbering in the forgotten places of the world, disturbed by the impossible light that now pulsed within him.
Morwen had spoken of shadows, of a balance that needed to be maintained. Leo had dismissed it then, his mind a whirlwind of confusion and the overwhelming influx of arcane knowledge. But now, as he practiced shaping raw energy into shimmering shields and bolts of pure force, he understood. The world was not as still as it appeared. His resurrection, his transformation, had been a stone cast into a deep, dark pond, and the ripples were reaching shores he couldn’t yet fathom.
One afternoon, while attempting to levitate a cluster of smooth river stones, the air around them turned a sickly violet. The stones shivered, then cracked, emitting faint tendrils of black smoke. Leo recoiled, the uncontrolled surge of power startling him. The forest floor around him darkened, as if a patch of night had fallen prematurely. A chill, unrelated to the temperature, snaked up his spine.
