Leo grows distant, his usual openness replaced by evasiveness. A shadow crosses his face when certain topics arise, a subtle shift that Baby notices, a growing unease blooming in her hopeful heart.
The vibrant hues of the Moroccan sunset had painted the sky in strokes of fiery orange and soft lavender, a breathtaking spectacle that usually filled Baby with an irrepressible joy. Tonight, however, a subtle discord hummed beneath the surface of her elation. Beside her, Leo, usually the first to point out the shifting colors, the unique silhouette of a distant minaret against the fading light, was unusually quiet. His gaze was fixed somewhere beyond the bustling marketplace, a faraway look in his eyes that Baby hadn't seen before.
They sat on the worn rug of a rooftop café, the aroma of mint tea and grilled meats wafting up to them, a symphony of exotic scents that usually invigorated her senses. But the usual spark between them felt dampened, like a flame struggling against a persistent draft. Leo’s hand, which had been tracing patterns on her palm earlier, now rested limply at his side.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Baby finally ventured, her voice a little softer than she intended. She nudged his arm gently. "Leo? The sunset."
