Baby squeezed his arm. “We’ll face it together. Whatever ‘it’ is.” Her trust was a balm, a steady anchor in the churning sea of his apprehension. She had seen the shadows that flickered behind his eyes when certain topics arose, the guardedness that descended like a shroud.
