The Accidental Hero's Invitation
The older kids stare, dumbfounded, at the muddy, triumphant Ashtin and the now-calm garden hose. Laison, initially annoyed, looks at Ashtin, then at his friends. Emma stifles a giggle, and Tonya grins. Ashtin's chaotic intervention, while completely unplanned, has inadvertently solved their 'kraken' problem. Laison, seeing the bewildered look on Ashtin's face and perhaps sensing an opportunity for a brief respite from his constant demands, makes a surprising decision. 'Alright, Ashtin,' he announces, trying to sound authoritative. 'You... uh... you saved Captain Squawk! You're a hero! You can be... the cabin boy.' He assigns Ashtin the most menial, non-essential role possible, but for Ashtin, it's the greatest honor. He's in. He's finally part of the pirate crew.
