Chapter 7
Heart of the Storm
As the Whispering God's influence intensifies, reality warps around Lyra and Valerius. They battle corrupted creatures and their own inner demons, their bond deepening amidst the chaos.
The air thrummed with a palpable wrongness. It wasn't the biting wind that scoured the jagged peaks of the Serpent's Spine, nor the gnawing cold that seeped into Lyra’s bones. This was an insidious chill, a creeping dread that slithered beneath the skin, whispering of things best left undisturbed. The very rocks seemed to groan, their ancient foundations unsettled by the tremors that had begun subtly, like a nervous tic, and were now escalating into violent shudders. The sky, a bruised twilight even at midday, swirled with unnatural patterns, like oil on water, shifting and coalescing into fleeting, monstrous shapes.

Yet, despite the grim circumstances, a wary respect, a fragile thread woven from shared peril, now existed between them. The raw hatred that had defined their initial encounters had been chipped away, replaced by a grudging understanding born in the crucible of shared nightmares.
"Does it feel… louder to you?" Lyra asked, her voice barely a whisper against the keening wind. The 'it' was the pervasive hum, the unsettling vibration that seemed to emanate from the very core of the world. Since the first violent tremor, a low, resonant thrum had become their constant companion, a maddening lullaby that promised oblivion.
