The air in the chamber was thick with the dust of ages, a tangible weight pressing down on Kael’s chest. He traced the rough-hewn symbols on the stone wall, a language he couldn’t read but felt in his bones. The stranger, Elara, stood a few paces away, her silhouette sharp against the faint, phosphorescent glow that emanated from the very bedrock of this forgotten place. It hummed with a power that made the hairs on Kael’s arms stand on end, a power that felt both terrifying and strangely familiar.
"This is it," Elara’s voice, usually a low murmur, resonated with a new, almost reverent tone. "The heart of the old oaths. The place where the binding began."
Kael’s gaze drifted to the center of the room, where a massive, obsidian slab lay embedded in the floor. Carved into its surface was a single, intricate symbol, one he recognized with a jolt of icy dread. It was the same symbol that adorned the Fate Marks of every person in Aranor, the starburst pattern that defined their lives, their destinies, their very beings. But here, on the obsidian, it pulsed with a malevolent, contained energy, like a caged beast straining against its bars.
