Chapter 17
Luna's Gentle Encouragement
Sensing Blaze's struggle, Luna gently touches his arm. 'What is it, Blaze?' she asks softly, her eyes full of warmth and curiosity. Her touch sends a jolt through him, giving him a sliver of courage.
The sun, a molten gold coin, began its slow descent towards the horizon, painting the sky in hues of apricot and rose. The boisterous symphony of the aqua park was softening, the shrieks of delight and splashes of water mellowing into a contented hum. Blaze and Luna sat on the edge of the wave pool, their legs dangling in the receding water, the day’s adventures having left them comfortably tired and content. The air, still warm and humid, carried the faint, sweet scent of sunscreen and chlorine.
Blaze’s gaze drifted to Luna, her hair, still damp, clinging to her temples, catching the fading light. He felt a familiar knot tighten in his stomach, the fear of shattering their easy friendship a more formidable barrier than any water slide.
Luna, sensing his quietude, turned her head, her bright eyes, usually so full of playful mischief, now held a soft, questioning warmth. A stray strand of her hair had fallen across her cheek, and instinctively, Blaze reached out, his fingers brushing against her skin as he tucked it behind her ear. The small gesture felt monumental, a tremor running through his arm as his fingertips met the delicate curve of her earlobe.
