The late afternoon sun slanted through the high, arched windows of the King’s private study, casting long, golden shadows across the richly patterned rug. Dust motes danced in the light, tiny stars in a sky of polished mahogany and deep velvet. It was here, amidst the hushed grandeur of the royal residence, that Theron and I found ourselves, the world outside the thick stone walls receding into a distant hum.
