Theron, seated on his throne, his regal posture a stark contrast to the gnawing unease I felt within, surveyed the scene with an unnerving calm. He knew. That much was clear. His eyes, those deep pools of sapphire, held a knowing glint, a silent acknowledgement of the charade we were all playing. And he knew *my* truth. The truth of Elias Thorne, the man who was supposed to be a mere pawn in this elaborate game, now actively rewriting the script.

Isolde, draped in silks that shimmered like a trapped sunset, was at her most captivating. Her laughter, a tinkling melody, echoed through the hall, directed, of course, at Alaric. My former destined object of affection, now a shadow of his former self, his gaze perpetually fixed on her, a moth drawn to a dangerously bright flame. He was oblivious, lost in the intoxicating illusion Isolde so expertly spun. And I? I watched, a detached observer from my original destiny, a ghost in my own life.

Theron’s voice, a low, resonant baritone, cut through the ambient chatter. “Lady Isolde, your presence graces us tonight. Your wit, as always, is as sharp as the finest blade.”
