Chapter 16
Safety First, Fun Always!
Amy emphasizes essential kitchen safety tips, especially when pets and unique helpers are around. Cooking should be enjoyable and secure for everyone involved. If You are physically challenged like Me You will find that having food choppers , cutting boards with pointed pegs to secure foods and Madeline s plus rocking cutting blades and chunky silverware and 2 handled cups are a Godsend but please be extra careful about the blades as they are extra sharp..just ask Rex
Oh, my dear friends, my wonderful kitchen crew, my recipe posse, and especially my sweet Nana Sadie! Here we are, diving headfirst into another chapter of our culinary adventures. And this one, my darlings, is about something incredibly important. It’s about making sure all this fun, all this laughter, all this magnificent (and sometimes messy) cooking is done safely. Because while my fur babies, my silly Chihuahua and my hyper Chiweenie, might think they’re sous chefs in training, and dear Rex might be… well, dear Rex, safety has to be the star of our show, even if it’s not the most glamorous role.
Now, you know me. I’m a bit of a dingbat, as Rex lovingly calls me. And with my genius IQ and all those fancy degrees, you’d think I’d have it all figured out, wouldn’t you? But sometimes, when those little noses are nudging my hand or Rex is asking for his pre-cooking snack (bless his heart, he knows the drill!), my brain does a little jig and forgets where it’s supposed to be. And when you add in some physical setbacks, well, sometimes the simplest things can become a bit of a mountain to climb. But guess what? We can still climb it, and we can laugh on the way up!
Let’s talk about those little helpers, shall we? My precious fur babies. They have the best intentions, I swear! But their idea of “helping” usually involves a wagging tail knocking over a measuring cup, a curious snout sniffing a bit too enthusiastically at the flour, or a sudden, inexplicable urge to chase a phantom dust bunny right through my carefully prepped ingredients. And that, my friends, is where Rule #1 comes in: When cooking with fur babies, always have a squeaky throw toy on hand. Yes, a squeaky toy. It’s my secret weapon. A quick toss, a flurry of happy barks and frantic pounces, and I’ve got a precious few minutes of uninterrupted chopping. But and this is crucial, you *must* wash your hands each time in between the throw and the cooking. Those little paws, bless them, might have been investigating… well, let’s just say things best left uninvestigated.
