Sunlight, previously a harsh glare on the battlefield, now streamed through the canopy of ancient trees, dappling the clearing in a gentle, golden light. The echoes of Seraphina’s desperate fury had faded, replaced by the soft rustling of leaves and the distant, melodic call of unseen birds. Elara knelt beside Kael, her hands, still trembling slightly, tracing the contours of his face. The wound on his side, a vicious gash that had threatened to steal him from her, was now a dull ache beneath the hastily applied poultice.

“Kael,” she whispered, her voice thick with unshed tears, a lump forming in her throat. “Are you sure?”

He met her gaze, his storm-gray eyes, usually so guarded, now shining with an emotion that mirrored her own. A slow, genuine smile, a rare and precious thing, spread across his lips. “As sure as I am that the sun will rise, Elara.” He reached up, his calloused fingers brushing a stray lock of hair from her cheek. “You… you saved me.
