Outside, the city hummed its usual lullaby of distant sirens and the rustle of unseen leaves, a stark contrast to the tempest brewing within his chest. He had rehearsed this moment a thousand times in the quiet theater of his mind, each iteration ending with a different, often impossible, outcome. Now, with Sakura seated across from him, her gaze a gentle, questioning pool, the carefully constructed defenses of his legal mind crumbled like ancient parchment.

Her presence was a quiet symphony. The way the lamplight caught the subtle curve of her cheek, the almost imperceptible rise and fall of her chest as she breathed, the faint scent of jasmine that seemed to cling to her like a second skin – it all conspired to weave a spell that Yami, for all his oratorical prowess, found himself utterly helpless against. He had come here, to this sanctuary of his thoughts, with a singular purpose: to unburden himself, to lay bare the truth that had been gnawing at his soul, regardless of the consequences.

“Sakura,” he began, his voice a low rumble, laced with a tremor he couldn’t quite disguise. He cleared his throat, the sound unnaturally loud in the charged silence. “There are things I need to say. Things I can no longer keep locked away.”
