A Conflicted Heart
Sakura feels increasingly torn. The comfort of her engagement with Aiko clashes with the exhilarating, yet unsettling, emotions Yami evokes.
The polished mahogany of Aiko’s study gleamed under the soft glow of a desk lamp, a silent testament to a life meticulously crafted. Sakura traced the cool, smooth surface with a fingertip, the faint scent of aged paper and expensive cologne clinging to the air. It was a scent of comfort, of predictability, of a future laid out like a well-trodden path. Yet, tonight, the familiar solidity felt like a cage.
Aiko sat opposite her, his brow furrowed slightly as he reviewed a document, his movements economical, precise. He was speaking of mergers and acquisitions, of strategic alliances, the language of a world she understood, a world she was meant to inhabit. He looked up, his gaze steady, a hint of possessive pride in his eyes. "You're quiet tonight, my love. Is the work too tedious?"
Sakura offered a small smile, a practiced reflex. "No, not at all. Just… thinking."
