Reflections in the Mirror

Arjuna sat by the window, the cool glass a stark contrast to the turmoil churning within him. The city lights blurred into streaks of color, mirroring the disarray of his thoughts. Maya’s words, “Aku minta putus,” still echoed in the hollow spaces of his heart, each repetition a fresh stab of pain. He had pleaded, he had questioned, he had offered his unending love, but her decision, firm and unyielding, remained. He traced a raindrop as it slid down the pane, a silent tear on the face of the night.

He replayed their last conversation, his desperate pleas for her to reconsider, his frantic assurances of love. He remembered the way her eyes, usually so full of warmth for him, had held a distant sadness, a resignation that chilled him to the bone. It wasn’t anger he saw, or even frustration. It was a profound weariness, as if she had carried a burden for too long, a burden he had somehow failed to see.

Could it be him? The thought, insidious and unwelcome, began to worm its way into his consciousness. He, who loved her more than life itself, who cherished every moment they shared, who believed their love was an unbreakable bond. How could he have contributed to this? His insecurity, a constant companion, whispered doubts he had always tried to push away. He had always felt a sliver of fear, a nagging worry that he wasn't good enough, that Maya, so radiant and vibrant, might eventually find someone better. But he had never imagined it would lead to this.
