The Forgotten Lineage

The air in Master Kenji's study was thick with the scent of aged parchment and dried ink, a familiar comfort that usually settled Akira's restless spirit. Tonight, however, it did little to quell the tremor in her hands as she traced the intricate carvings on the wooden table. Master Kenji sat opposite her, his gaze steady, the flickering lamplight casting dancing shadows across his weathered face. He had spoken of the sword, of its curse, but now, his words took a turn that sent a chill deeper than any winter wind down Akira's spine.

"The blade you carry, Akira," he began, his voice a low rumble, "it is more than a tool of destruction. It is a key."

Akira's breath hitched. A key? To what? The darkness that festered within her? The memories she desperately tried to outrun? "A key to what, Master?" she managed, her voice barely a whisper.
