Maya, now adorned with a small, iridescent scarab beetle perched jauntily on her shoulder, felt a thrill course through her ancient bandages. Pip, as she’d affectionately nicknamed the tiny creature, was a constant, buzzing source of delight. Gone was the annoyance that had sparked their initial encounter; replaced by a shared sense of wonder and the promise of endless exploration. Today, they were to embark on a grand tour, a journey through the colossal pyramids that stood sentinel over their sandy kingdom.

“Where shall we begin, little wanderer?” Maya’s voice, a soft rustle of aged linen, echoed in the grand hall. Pip, his tiny antennae twitching with excitement, clicked his mandibles, a sound Maya had come to interpret as an enthusiastic affirmation. He seemed to favor the largest structure, the Great Pyramid, its peak piercing the azure sky like a forgotten god’s finger.
