Kenny and Vexara enter the Crystal Throne, but the Throne reveals Vexara is a duplicate created by the splinter to lure Kenny. The real Vexara is imprisoned within. Kenny frees her, learns the splinter controls Crane, and must merge with the Throne to become the true warden. The chapter ends with Kenny facing the ultimate sacrifice.
The airlock hissed shut behind Kenny and Vexara, sealing them off from the chaos of the Stardancer's bridge. The battle had already erupted—laser fire, clashing metal, and the distant roar of Hive ships engaging Crane's twisted fleet. But inside the crystal corridor leading to the Throne, silence reigned. The walls pulsed with a soft, bioluminescent glow, casting shifting shadows that danced like living things.
Vexara moved ahead, her robes whispering against the crystalline floor. Kenny followed, his hand resting on the golden energy that hummed beneath his skin. Every step sent ripples through the Throne, as if the structure itself recognized him.
“This place has a memory,” Vexara said without turning. “It remembers the first warden. It remembers your mother. And it remembers the betrayal that split the cosmos.”
