Kenny's mother Serena helps him sense his father's true location, revealing that his coma is a psychic prison connected to the ancient evil. The crew fights a desperate battle, and Kenny uses his new warden abilities to break the link, buying them time to escape. The chapter ends with a new heading toward a forgotten star system, leaving Crane's whereabouts unknown.
The Space Hunters had been flying for three days since the collapse of the cosmic nexus. The ship hummed with a comfortable rhythm, the crew slowly recovering from the ordeal. Kenny spent most of his time in the med bay with his mother, Serena, learning about her centuries of imprisonment, the weight of her duty, and the love she still held for his father. But the galaxy had no patience for healing.
It was Mera who spotted the distress signal first. A repeating pulse, weak and distorted, coming from a mining colony on the edge of the Rift—a place called Oreth-7. The message was simple: "Help. Hive activity. Survivors trapped."
Kranos rubbed his chin, suspicious. "The Hive has been quiet since Vexara fell. Could be stragglers, but could be a trap."
