Riddles in the Stone
More puzzles await within the ruins. Each solved riddle reveals more about the artifact's purpose, but also seems to alert their pursuer. Faith is tested.
The air inside the crumbling ruins was thick with the scent of damp earth and something else, something ancient and forgotten. Dust motes danced in the slivers of light that pierced the fractured ceiling, illuminating the worn carvings on the stone walls. Noah, ever the meticulous one, ran a finger along a series of symbols, his brow furrowed in concentration. "These look like… a sequence," he murmured, his voice hushed, as if afraid to wake the sleeping stones. "Not just decoration, Adam. These are instructions."
I leaned closer, my heart thrumming with a mixture of excitement and a familiar knot of apprehension. The map had led us here, through winding tunnels and over treacherous drops, and now we stood in what felt like the heart of it all. But the shadows still clung to the corners, and the feeling of being watched, of a presence just beyond our sight, was a constant, prickling sensation. Joseph, always eager to lend a hand, was already examining a loose stone near the center of the chamber. "Maybe there's a lever here!" he exclaimed, giving it a tentative push. It didn't budge.
"Easy, Joe," Noah cautioned, finally looking up from the wall. "We need to figure out the pattern first. Look at these lines, Adam. They connect the symbols. It's like a story, or a… a set of rules." He pointed to a particularly intricate carving depicting a stylized sun. "This one, I think, represents the beginning. The source of all light, the first spark of understanding."
