Dmitri, his usual boisterous energy subdued, poured Anya a cup of steaming herbal tea, his movements careful, almost reverent. And… to protect you both.” She looked from Dmitri to Nickola, a flicker of her former fire returning to her gaze. The conspiracy, a tangled web spun by the ambitious impresario, Mr. Volkov, had aimed to exploit the theater’s resources for illicit gain, and Anya, with her sharp intellect and unshakeable integrity, had become an inconvenient obstacle.
