Anya, though physically recovered, moved with a new fragility, her eyes, once alight with the fire of performance, now held a haunted depth. The opulent suite where she recuperated, once a symbol of her success, felt like a gilded cage. Dmitri, his usual boisterous energy subdued, sat by her side, a silent sentinel. Nickola, his hands restless, paced the Persian rug, the victory of Anya’s rescue tainted by the lingering shadows of betrayal.

“He confessed everything, Anya,” Dmitri said, his voice low, breaking the heavy silence. “The bribes, the blackmail, the threats… everything he did to control the theater, to control you.” He couldn’t bring himself to utter the name of their tormentor, the man whose carefully constructed facade had crumbled under the weight of his own greed.

Anya traced the rim of her teacup, her gaze fixed on the swirling steam. “It wasn’t just about the theater, Dmitri,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “He wanted to silence me. What I saw… what I overheard… it would have ruined him.” She finally looked at her brother, a flicker of the old Anya returning. “He thought he could break me, make me disappear like so many others who stood in his way.”
