The air in the opulent dressing room, once alive with the scent of hairspray and wilting roses, now hung heavy with a chilling stillness. Anya, her face pale and drawn, sat on the velvet stool, her eyes, usually so bright with the fire of performance, now held a haunted, distant look. The elaborate costume, the very symbol of her stolen artistry, lay discarded on the floor like a fallen bird. Dmitri knelt before her, his hand gently stroking her hair, a silent testament to the terror that had gripped him. Nickola stood by the door, his gaze sweeping the room, a sentinel guarding against unseen threats.
Anya finally stirred, her voice a whisper, thin as spun glass. “They wanted me to sign… to sign away everything. My name, my future. They said it was for my own good, that I had seen too much.” Her fingers traced invisible patterns on the silk of her gown. “The documents… they were in an old ledger. Hidden behind the tapestry in the director’s office.”
Dmitri’s jaw tightened. “Who, Anya? Who were they? Who forced you?”
