Chapter 26
Episode 26
The four men, their faces grim, bowed their heads in unison. A flicker of confusion crossed Luna’s face, but the palpable shift in their demeanor allowed her to retrieve Moana’s belongings with an unsettling ease. As they loaded the last of Moana’s meager possessions onto the bus, Luna gently tucked her new daughter into one of the plush beds. The weight of Mark’s words pressed down on her, a chilling revelation that gnawed at her peace. She needed to speak with someone she trusted. Pulling Max aside, and then Mr. Lee, she led them to a secluded corner of the bus, a space often used for private conversations. With a deep breath, Luna began, her voice barely a whisper, recounting Mark’s shocking claim, that Malik, the man who had shattered her family, was her own grandfather.

Max’s eyes widened in disbelief, his hand instinctively reaching for hers. Mr. Lee’s brow furrowed, a storm brewing behind his usually placid gaze. “Your grandfather?” he echoed, his voice laced with a mixture of shock and concern. “This… this changes everything, Luna.” He paused, running a hand through his thinning hair. “Malik is a dangerous man, and if he is indeed your relation, it means he has a deeper, more insidious connection to your family’s past than we ever imagined.” Luna’s gaze drifted to Moana, who was now fast asleep, her small face peaceful. The thought of this monstrous man being her blood, the same man who had stolen her mother and fractured her family, sent a shiver down her spine. “I don’t want to believe it,” she confessed, her voice trembling. “But Mark… he looked so familiar, and the way he spoke… it felt like the truth.” Max squeezed her hand reassuringly. “We’ll figure this out, Luna. Together. Whatever this means, we’ll face it.” Mr. Lee nodded, his expression resolute. “For now, we need to remain vigilant. This tour is a necessary part of your journey, but your safety, and Moana’s, must be our top priority. We will need to devise a new plan, one that accounts for this… unexpected familial connection.” The hum of the bus engine seemed to amplify the unspoken dread that now hung heavy in the air, a prelude to a confrontation Luna knew was inevitable. "Are we home yet?" a small voice chirped from behind them. Momo, or Moana as she now preferred, had emerged from wherever she'd been hiding, her wide, innocent eyes searching Luna's face. Luna knelt, scooping the little girl into her arms. "Not quite, sweetie. We'll be in a hotel room tonight. Max and Jordan will be sharing with us, but don't worry. You'll be safe." Luna began to hum a soft melody, a lullaby her own mother used to sing to her. Momo’s eyelids grew heavy, and she drifted off to sleep in Luna's embrace.
Upon arriving at the hotel, Luna directed the boys to bring Moana’s belongings to their shared room. Once inside, she gently laid Momo on a bed before retreating to the living room, her exhaustion finally catching up to her. She collapsed onto the couch, a deep sleep claiming her almost instantly. Max and Jordan entered the room, finding Luna fast asleep. They quietly covered her with a blanket and headed to their own beds, the weight of the day settling upon them all.
The morning light, filtered through the thick hotel curtains, did little to rouse Luna. She stirred, a groan escaping her lips as she stretched, every muscle protesting the cramped sleep. A quick glance around revealed the boys still asleep in their separate beds, Moana nestled peacefully beside Max. Luna slipped out of the room, careful not to disturb them, and headed for the hotel’s complimentary breakfast. The aroma of stale coffee and lukewarm scrambled eggs did nothing for her appetite, but she knew she needed to eat.
