His stride was long and purposeful, carrying her through a warm, brightly lit hallway. She buried her face in the rough fabric of his shirt, the scent of woodsmoke and something vaguely metallic a strange comfort. Through the blur of her tears, she heard muffled voices, then a door opening. The man’s grip shifted, settling her onto a soft, plush chair. The room was grand, with a roaring fireplace and large, ornate furniture. A woman with kind eyes and silver hair knelt beside her, a gentle hand reaching for her forehead. Luna flinched away, her frantic pleas still echoing in her mind. “Max… Jordan....they need help!”

The woman's gaze softened further. "It's alright, little one. No one will hurt you here." Her voice was like warm honey, a stark contrast to the growls and shouts still ringing in Luna's ears. The man who'd carried her stood silently beside the woman, his imposing figure a reassuring presence. Luna gripped the arms of the chair, her knuckles white. "They're coming," she whispered, her voice hoarse, "the men with the dark eyes. They took our parents. They're after us." A shudder wracked her small frame. "We ran, but Max and Jordan… I don't know where they are. Please, you have to help them."

The woman shared a quick, concerned glance with the man, her smile unwavering as she turned back to Luna. “Tell us everything you remember, sweetie. Take a deep breath.” She gestured for the silent man to bring a glass of water, which he did with surprising gentleness, holding it to Luna's chapped lips. Luna took a small sip, the coolness a welcome shock to her parched throat. The warmth of the room began to penetrate her soaked clothes, but the chill of fear still gripped her. “It was… it was so fast,” she began, her voice still trembling. “One minute we were playing, the next…” She trailed off, the memory of Kal’s panicked face and the guttural snarls too vivid.

“The next… there was a man with dark eyes. He… he said he wanted the twins. Kal told us to run.” Her voice hitched, a fresh wave of tears threatening to spill. The woman squeezed her hand gently. “It’s okay, honey. You’re safe now.” Luna shook her head, tears finally tracing paths down her smudged cheeks. “No! It’s not okay! They’re still out there. Max and Jordan… the screams… from our house. We couldn’t look back. We just ran and ran. But then… then Max… he got separated.” Her eyes darted around the opulent room, as if expecting to see her lost brother and friend appear. “We were in the woods, and then I was alone. So cold, so wet…” She shivered, clutching at her arms.

The woman pulled a soft, thick blanket from a nearby chest and draped it around Luna’s shoulders. The warmth was immediate, a small comfort against the overwhelming terror. “And then you found our door,” the woman finished softly, her gaze unwavering. Luna nodded, her teeth chattering slightly. “Yes. And then… you. You saved me.” She looked up at the man who still stood watch, his dark eyes surprisingly soft. “You saved me, too.” A fresh wave of tears welled up, but this time they were tears of relief, of gratitude. “But Max and Jordan,” she insisted, her voice gaining a renewed urgency despite her exhaustion. “They’re still out there. We have to find them. Please, you have to send someone. They’re probably just as scared as I was.”

The woman exchanged another meaningful glance with the man, her expression now etched with a deeper concern. "We will, sweetie. We will do everything we can to find your brother and your friend." She stroked Luna's damp hair, a calming gesture that did little to quell the girl's anxiety. "First, let's get you warm and something to eat. Then, you can tell us more about what happened, and we'll send out a search party." Luna’s gaze fixed on the man. “You promise?” she whispered, her voice barely audible above the crackling fire. He nodded slowly, his silence more powerful than any spoken assurance. “He’s Alpha Thorne,” the woman supplied gently. “And I’m Luna Thorne. You’re safe with us, child.”
