The salty tang of the sea, once a scent of freedom, now clung to Alice like a shroud. It mingled with the coppery smell of blood and the acrid bite of fear, a cocktail that churned in her gut. Below, the harbor of Port Azure teemed with a different kind of life than the one she’d known – a frantic, desperate energy. Ships bobbed, their masts a skeletal forest against the bruised dawn sky, while dockworkers, their faces etched with a weariness that mirrored her own, heaved crates and shouted orders. This was the heart of it all, the nexus of trade and shadow, the place where the Oracle clan’s tendrils reached furthest, and where, she prayed, they would finally break.

Beside her, Roric’s jaw was set, a grim mask of determination. His calloused hand rested on the hilt of his sword, a silent promise of violence. Lyra, ever watchful, her dark eyes darting between the bustling docks and the shadowed alleys, clutched a quiver of arrows, her knuckles white. The air crackled with anticipation, a coiled spring ready to unleash its fury. They were a small force, a desperate gamble against the ancient power of the Oracle clan, but they were all Alice had. And she, in turn, was all they had.

"They'll be expecting us," Roric murmured, his voice a low rumble. "Kaelen won't be caught off guard again."
