The salt spray kissed Alice’s face, a familiar, bracing caress that did little to soothe the knot of apprehension tightening in her gut. She stood on the docks of Port Azure, the cacophony of the city a vibrant, chaotic symphony against the rhythmic slap of waves against weathered pilings. Sailors shouted, merchants haggled, and the mingled scents of fish, tar, and exotic spices filled the air. It was a world away from the hushed, sterile halls of the Oracle clan, a world she had desperately sought to bury herself in. But the whispers of the past, like barnacles clinging to a hull, refused to be scraped away entirely.

Roric stood beside her, his gaze sweeping over the bustling scene with a practiced, assessing eye. He was a man carved from granite and tempered by a thousand storms, his presence a solid anchor in the swirling uncertainties of Alice’s new life. He had offered her refuge, a tentative alliance born from shared enemies, but the weight of his proposal now pressed down on her, heavy and undeniable.

“The clan’s supply lines are stretched thin,” Roric said, his voice a low rumble that cut through the din. “They rely on this port for provisions, for coin, for everything that keeps their gilded cages intact. We hit them here, and we wound them deep.” He gestured towards a cluster of warehouses, their facades weathered and scarred, promising hidden stores and strategic importance. “A small strike, a calculated blow. We disrupt their flow, sow chaos, and buy ourselves time. Time for the people to see that the Oracle’s grip is not unbreakable.”
