The air in the Starlight Grove hummed, not with the vibrant symphony Elara had hoped for, but with a fragile, expectant silence. It was a silence that pressed in, thick with the memory of a grandeur long past, a silence that whispered of dormant power waiting to be coaxed awake. Elara stood at the heart of it, her lute cradled in her arms, her fingers still tingling from the touch of the ancient music. The first note, a pure, clear sound born of desperation and love, had hung in the air for a moment, a solitary star in the encroaching darkness, before fading back into the stillness.

She closed her eyes, trying to recapture the feeling, the raw emotion that had propelled that first note into existence. It had been a prayer, a plea, a desperate outpouring of her heart for her grandmother. Elara knew, with a certainty that settled deep in her bones, that her music was the only hope.

She plucked another string, a hesitant, questioning sound. It was too timid, too frail. It didn’t carry the weight of her yearning, the fierce, protective love that burned within her. She tried again, this time focusing on the warmth of her grandmother’s hand, the crinkle of her eyes when she smiled, the stories she used to tell of a world bursting with life and melody. A slightly stronger note emerged, a little warmer, a little more resonant. It was still not enough.
