The Heart of the Forest

Following the map's final clues, Creed and CarterJean arrive at a hidden clearing, the very heart of the Whispering Woods. A soft, ethereal glow emanates from its center.

The rustling of leaves beneath Creed and CarterJean’s worn boots grew softer, more hushed, as if the very trees themselves were holding their breath. The map, now creased and smudged with their journey, had led them through groves where sunlight dappled like scattered gold coins and past ancient roots that twisted like sleeping giants. The air, once alive with the chatter of unseen creatures, now hummed with a different kind of energy – a gentle, pulsing warmth that seemed to seep from the earth itself.

“Are we there yet, Creed?” CarterJean whispered, her voice barely disturbing the stillness. She clutched her brother’s arm, her eyes wide and scanning the dense green walls that surrounded them. Even though the sprites had been outsmarted and the river crossed, a prickle of apprehension still danced along her skin.

Creed squeezed her hand. “Almost, I think. The map says… see? Where the oldest oak points its highest branch.” He pointed a dirt-stained finger towards a colossal tree, its crown so vast it seemed to touch the sky. Its uppermost branch, gnarled and ancient, indeed stretched out like a welcoming arm, pointing directly ahead.
