Chapter 6
Shattered Reflections
Elise's fragmented memories begin to coalesce, revealing flashes of her 'creation.' The truth is more complex and disturbing than she imagined, challenging her identity.
The sterile white room swam back into focus, the sharp tang of disinfectant a stark contrast to the lingering metallic scent of blood that clung to my senses. Verdigard’s voice, a low rumble that always managed to both soothe and unsettle, echoed in the chambers of my mind, a constant echo of his presence. He had brought me back, pulled me from the suffocating darkness that had claimed me. He was the storm, and I, the only one he bothered to shield from its fury.
Now, here I was, swaddled in bandages, the dull ache of my wounds a constant reminder of my vulnerability. Verdigard sat by my bedside, his presence a heavy, comforting weight in the otherwise sterile environment. He didn’t speak much, not at first. He’d simply watch me, his dark eyes, usually so sharp and assessing, softened with an emotion I couldn’t quite decipher. Was it concern? Pity? Or something far more possessive? I’d learned long ago not to trust the surface of things when it came to Verdigard.
