Chapter 19
New Friends, New Flavors
Barnaby visits the hedgehogs, leaving them a small, hedgehog-friendly treat. His appreciation for their accidental help is clear.
Barnaby Buttercup, his apron still dusted with the phantom flour of his culinary misadventures, found himself once again on a pilgrimage of sorts. The sourdough starter, still bubbling with an almost defiant cheerfulness, sat in its makeshift terracotta pot, now nestled amongst a bed of soft moss. Around it, the hedgehog family, a delightful collection of snuffling noses and twitching whiskers, were engaged in what appeared to be a communal grooming session. The smallest of the clutch, a particularly round specimen, was attempting to wrestle a fallen apple slice twice its size, its tiny legs a blur of determined effort.
