Chapter 4

A Desperate Gamble

With their escape fund dwindling and Thorne's shadow lengthening, Maya and Caleb are desperate. The thrill-seeking impulse, once their guide, now pushes them towards recklessness. They concoct a plan for a high-stakes heist – a local pawn shop rumored to hold a significant stash of cash. Maya’s impulsive nature clashes with Caleb’s burgeoning caution, but the allure of a quick fix wins. They execute the plan with their characteristic flair, but an unforeseen complication, perhaps a silent alarm or an unexpected witness, turns their daring move into a spectacular failure. They escape with nothing but more heat, their options shrinking to a pinprick.
