The air still thrummed with the echo of Liam’s confession, a fragile melody woven into the chaos of the collapsing warehouse. Clare clung to him, her heart a frantic drumbeat against his chest, the raw vulnerability in his eyes a stark contrast to the cool mask he usually wore. The fire, a voracious beast consuming timber and memories, cast dancing shadows that seemed to mock the nascent hope blooming within her. He had said it, finally. He loved her. The words, whispered amidst the roar of flames and the distant wail of sirens, were more precious than any treasure.

Then, a jarring sound, not of fire, but of tearing metal, ripped through the cacophony. A shadow detached itself from the deeper gloom near the main entrance, moving with unnerving speed. Before Liam could react, before Clare could even register the threat, a rough hand clamped over her mouth, stifling her cry. Another figure, larger and more imposing, materialized beside Liam, his face a mask of cold calculation.

“Enough,” Silas Vance’s voice, a silken threat, cut through the inferno. His eyes, devoid of any warmth, met Liam’s. “The show is over, son.”
