Zorp and Gleep Watch
Back on Mars, Zorp and Gleep stare at the portal, which still shimmers faintly. They see tiny images of Brian dancing happily. They are proud and a little bit jealous.
The Martian dust settled, not with a whisper, but with a sigh of quiet wonder. On the vast, ochre plains, where the sky bled into a perpetual twilight, the glass jars of alien brains remained, their forms bobbing gently within their nutrient-rich confines. Zorp and Gleep, their bulbous craniums pulsating with a mixture of pride and a peculiar sort of wistfulness, stared fixedly at the spot where the shimmering portal had been. It wasn't entirely gone, not yet. A faint, almost imperceptible quiver hung in the air, like the ghost of a ripple on a pond, a silent testament to the extraordinary event that had just unfolded.
"He's really doing it, Gleep," Zorp murmured, his voice a low thrum that vibrated through the thick glass of his jar. His gaze was fixed on the residual shimmer, as if trying to coax more of it into existence, to catch another fleeting glimpse of their brave friend.
Gleep, his own gelatinous form jiggling with excitement, nodded vigorously. "He is! Our Brian! Off to Earth, with his tap shoes and everything!" He sounded like a tiny, enthusiastic supernova, all bright flares and popping energy. But beneath the exuberance, a sliver of something else flickered – a deep, quiet ache.
